Help for the Main Sketch Engine Links
This help page gives brief information on the following Sketch Engine links:
- Concordance: for querying a corpus and obtaining concordances which you can then further refine, filter and use for generating frequency information and collocation lists
- Word List: for obtaining word lists for an entire corpus, or a specified subcorpus
- Word Sketch: this allows you to explore the grammatical and collocational behaviour of a word (see also word sketch section in the Getting Started Documentation).
- Thesaurus: this allows you to find other words that have similar grammatical and collocational behaviour to a given word (see also the thesaurus section in the Getting Started Documentation). Note that this thesaurus is produced automatically from statistics on word co-occurrences. It is not a manually constructed thesaurus and will list words for each entry which are distributionally related but not necessarily synonyms.
- FindX: this is a facility to compare words in the corpus in terms of their grammatical behaviour, the specification of this behaviour needs to be pre-defined. See also SkE/FindX, SkE/Histograms and also the 2008 Euralex paper on findX
- Sketch-Diff: this allows you to compare the behaviour of two words (see also the sketch difference section in the Getting Started Documentation)
For General Sketch Engine Documentation, please go to SkE/DocsIndex or click on the help link at the upper right hand side of the Sketch Engine Interface.
For a Glossary of Sketch Engine Terminology see our Jargon Buster
For help on the choices on any of the specific pages, please use the page specific help link on the lower left hand side panel. Note that the position of these links can change if you click on switch menu position. If you do this you can select it again (it will have moved to top right of screen) and you will be back to the default positions. All our documentation refers to the default positioning of the menus.
