One-click copying not working after a software update or on a new computer
The most probable source of this problem is the following:
Adobe has recently (October 2008) released a new version of the Flash player (we use it for one-click copying since it is the only way how to access the computer clipboard that is browser-independent). But in this new version, the possibilities of the clipboard access are restricted for security reasons and so one-click copying does not work through Flash player 10.
However, it works with Flash player 9 and for IE and Firefox, there is a possibility how to access the clipboard without Flash (however, not so user-friendly in case of FF, see below). We have adjusted the javascripts used for one-click copying so that they can use the non-flash variants of one-click copying in IE and FF as well as the copying using the Flash 9 (if it is present).
What does this all mean?
- In Firefox (and relative browsers) and Internet Explorer, the one-click copying will work well, no matter what Flash version is present. For Firefox, one security setting has to be set (the procedure is described below)
- In other browsers (e.g. Opera) the one-click copying will work only in combination with Flash 9 (or lower)
How to set Firefox to enable the non-flash copying:
- write "about:config" in the address bar
- click "I will be careful, I promise"
- put "signed.applets.codebase_principal_support" into the 'filter' box (we want to change the browser property with this name)
- double-click on the value "false" should change it to "true"
- when clicking a copy-icon in SkE concordance, a dialog window appears telling that a script is trying to get some abilities; tick "Remember this decision" and "Allow"
- restart Firefox
after this is done, one-click copying should work in Firefox in the same way as it did before with the Flash player 9.
Finally, general possible solutions are:
- downgrade the Flash player to version 9 in your browser
- use IE or Firefox with the setting described above
